People in the modern world have become too reliant on information technology

There is no doubt that we are surrounded by information technology at every corner. Nowadays, we live in a modern world operating at a faster pace. This might be beneficial to some extent but there are cases when we become too reliant on technological sources of information.

In our great-grandparents’ time, technology was not developed as young people experience it now. While the Internet provides us access to an efficient amount of information, most people could not find an answer to their question within seconds in the past. For instance, they had to spend more time and energy on research by visiting the library. The school facilities were limited as well, having fewer opportunities for further education and interactive learning.

What is more, our expeditious generation has brought social media into existence. With the help of globalisation, we live in a world where we are connected with people all across the globe. People naturally look for further expression as well, possibly becoming attached to online conversations and nonreal attention. This, combined with the pressure of the modern world, can actually lead to a decrease in one’s internal happiness.

In view of the above arguments, I believe every individual should avoid information technology when it is not necessarily needed and support developing their own thinking patterns. Information technology is a marvel, but it has not the same value as physical interaction.
